Sloth in Costa Rica
Christian Lopez
Sloths are fascinating creatures often associated with Costa Rica’s lush rainforests. There are two main species found in the country: the two-toed sloth and the three-toed sloth. These slow-moving mammals are known for their relaxed lifestyle, spending most of their time hanging from trees, munching on leaves, and sleeping.
In Costa Rica, sloths are commonly spotted in national parks like Bijagua and La Forturna, where they thrive in the dense canopy. Their unique adaptations, such as a slow metabolism and a diet primarily of leaves, help them survive in their natural habitat.
